I am beyond excited to be starting my dream internship at my dream company - L'Oréal, this summer in Montreal as a marketing intern!

I remember I posted my first makeup tutorial back in grade 7... Fast forwards to grade 11 when I finally started to seriously consider my career, I realized I wanted to work at the intersection of Psychology and Business - Marketing. However, more specifically, I wanted to tie it to my passion - beauty and cosmetics. Beauty Marketing has always been my goal, and naturally, I came to realize how many of my favourite brands were under L'Oréal. Growing up with an extremely global background of being fluent in English, Chinese, French and Japanese, L'Oréal seemed like a perfect fit with their products touching people from around the world.

In my 1st year, I was beyond lucky to have met my mentor Sian Williams, who believed in me and helped introduce my first internship at Shiseido CA. After my initial marketing internship, I started to believe that it was crucial to develop a broader view of the various touch points in marketing management. So, from there I worked at a beauty PR, Jenny Bird Jewelry, and finally at Well.ca, all on various tasks such as marketing, communications, sales, e-commerce, and merchandising. All the while, making sure I practice strategic thinking, challenging many case competitions and placing Top 8 and 20 in 2017-2018 at the Queen's Marketing Association Conference (QMAC) National Case Competition to name a few.

Additionally, to ensure I kept in contact with the beauty community, I created my own beauty brand, JAYYANGG/ JAYBeauty, on Instagram, blogger, and youtube. There, I am able to share my beauty knowledge with others, make some amazing friends, and to discuss with other beauty enthusiasts like me!

This year, I'm very lucky and grateful for meeting Aleksandra Szymkowiak, L'Oreal Canada's Director of Talent Acquisition, at QMAC. She gave me the chance to share my passion, she attentively listened to my story and my dedication to the industry. But, finally, my entire journey itself would not be possible without my mom, Aijun Zhao, who never once told me I couldn't pursue my interests and who always look for a way to help me as a mother and as a mentor.

Dreams really do come true as long as you create a game plan and work hard at it. As much as it was luck of meeting the right people at the right time, it was also the composition of my planning since the inception of my idea in grade 11. As cheesy as it is, "luck is where preparation meets opportunity."  It is crucial to think 3 and 5 years ahead of want to be in the future. This is so you can prepare adequately for that moment where you find yourself in the right place, and at the right time. And when you are prepared for that moment and things go well, you'll find yourself feeling "lucky." "I am a great believer in luck. The harder I work, the more of it I seem to have."

*Shoutout to my best friend Hanning Zhang who was my first mentor since grade 9! Thank you for being there every step of the way :)

GARNIER FRUCTIS REPAIRING TREAT WITH PAPAYA EXTRACT

Price: ~$5/6
100mL
I personally have fine hair and unfortunately, because I like to dye and curl it, has become drier (especially since it's winter now) and has a lot of split ends. Additionally, I use purple shampoo to help cancel out brassiness in my hair, which also dries my hair out as well! That's why I was really excited when Garnier reached out to me and asked if I wanted to review the Garnier Fructis Repairing Treat with Papaya Extract :D  I'll give everything a shot if it can repair my hair haha

**Product was sent to me by the Garnier team, but my thoughts are all my own and honest!

Review:

Garnier Fructis Repairing Treat with Papaya Extract claims to be a 3-in-1 product:
  • 1 Minute hair mask
  • Conditioner
  • Leave In Conditioner
I must say that I agree with this statement! I can either choose to use it as a hair mask and let it sit for a bit longer, quickly as a conditioner, or after my shower when my hair is still a bit damp as a leave in. Either way, the product works nicely softening my hair and making it super smooth.

My initial reaction was that the product felt creamy and immediately made my hair really soft! I left it in for roughly a minute + and then rinsed. I could tell right away that my hair felt smoother, silkier and more hydrated. I was surprised because the mask isn't super thick. I usually associate thicker conditioners/masks as a more heavy duty one. Despite the thinner texture, it did a really great job hydrating.

My prefered way is leaving it on for a prolonged time as a hair mask or as a leave in. My only gripe is that the packaging can be difficult to use in the shower. I personally don't turn the water off as I apply it and water can easily get into the tub because I use my fingers to scoop it out.

The smell, however, is my FAVOURITE part! It smells like Strawberry Hi-Chu Candy :D Especially when you rinse it out of your hair the whole shower smells like strawberries :)

However, after the initial few uses, I couldn't tell if any of split ends had mended. I don't know in the long term if this product helps with repairing split ends but will definitely keep your hair hydrated. In turn, I think that will help prevent new ones, or making existing ones worse.

Compared to the Garnier Fructis Damage Eraser

I must say that the Damage Eraser is thicker and comes with more product, but requires much longer time for your hair to feel as hydrated as the Repairing Treatment felt.
The Damage Eraser requires me to put my conditioned hair into a shower cap and for me to leave the shower to lounge for a bit. The Repairing Treatment works much faster and there's no need to leave the shower. By the time I'm done washing up, my hair is hydrated!
The Repairing Treatment is great for me because I don't have the time to leave a hair mask on and lounge. Especially in the mornings, I have less than 10 minutes to shower!

Pros:

  • Great ingredients
    • 98% naturally derived ingredients
    • Ingredients list is filled with natural oils great for your hair
    • Papaya extract
  • Hair feels really silky/hydrated after first use
  • Works very quickly - only needs to be left on for 1 minute
  • Smells like strawberry Hi-Chu Candy!!!!
  • Multi-purposeful
    • Hair Mask
    • Conditioner
    • Leave in conditioner

Cons:

  • Heavily fragranced
  • Not as much product as you would get in other hair mask tubs
  • Unsure if the product will "repair" split ends
  • Packaging is not the best - water can splash into the product easily.

Rating:  8/10
